Do you have any ways of catching fish that never fail? Ways that you use when all else fail? I’ll give you mine. My best way to catch trout which almost never fails is to use yellow Powerbait. My best bass lure is a five inch plastic worm with curly tail a size 1/0 offset wide gap hook. I also heard a spinner called the "Midnight Special" is an amazing lure to fish at night for bass. A live worm and a hook will catch just about any freshwater fish.
Those are my surefire ways to catch fish. I do just about every type of fishing, so any kind of lures or tips will work. I am very experienced, and don’t need any beginner tips. I gave you my tricks, now what are yours?

I like jug fishing using cut bream for catfish. I also use a tiny torpedo for bass fishing at night. I use purple salamanders during the spring time for bedding bass, usually gets me some action when nothing else will, and I use a white curly tail jig for crappie. But the best tip I can offer when all else fails is live bait.

Normally since I fish grassy areas my go to bait is a senko type worm fished weightless. Retrieved with very light twitches of the rod tip with numerous pauses in my retrieve. But even this will fail to produce on some occasions, and I then go to a Zoom trick work fished weightless and retrieved in the same manner as the senko type lure. You will notice I don’t use the senko lure. Why? because I have found the similar lures to it produce faster action then the senko and they are much cheaper per pack. But I am sure there are some places where the fish prefer the senko lure. But not where I fish at. This method of fishing and the two lures mentioned have produced literally thousands of bass for me in the last 4 years.Nothing catches fish any faster in the waters I fish in, unless there is a red hot spinner bait bite going on.But over the span of time, the spinner bait gets out fished by the plastics I use.

You’re asking a lot, we all have a trick or 2 up our sleeves to fall on. I go simple, a jig head with a live bait attached. I have caught more fish this way than any other. The weight of the jig head will vary depending on how fast I want it to sink but I have found that a slow slinking jig with a live bait attracts more fish. ~good luck catchin’.

I always catch my biggest carp with panfish rods! (no joke) I went to this creek down the road with two rods, a zebco 33, and some cheap panfish combo! (Don’t use expensive stuff creek fishing, the mud and crap down there will ruin it). I used the 33 for panfishing (because i had a graphite rod on it, and could feel those small nibbles) and i put the panfish rod out with plain bread on the bottom. Well in about 5 mins after catching a sucker, bass, and some bluegill with my 33 my whole damn bluegill rod tries to take a dive, a take it and set the hook, ultimately braking the 8 lb. test. Fought the hell out of me. Had a cheap drag on the reel.
Then i get another bite and some how bring in a 16 inch carp on it! (This is a 10′ creek!) Caught about 7 fish, including a sucker, some bass, bluegill, and a carp.

My tip of the day is this. The number one lure in the world and my personal favorite is the RAPALA. They have caught more world records than any other lure.
The best is a plain #7 floater, silver with a black back. I use this with a small clip (no swivel) or a loop knot to give it more action. When fishing on ultralight tackle say 4lb test line I add a shock leader of 8lb flouro carbon leader.
I have been fishing for over 50 years, I caught every specie from the reefs off the Keys to the streams in the NC Mountains. My father brought rapalas back from Europe in the early 60’s when he was in the Navy.
They still work. In fact, they can be utilized as a top water popper, as a crank-bait, as a jerk-bait, and even can be Carolina rigged.

To start with, you can use a medium-flexible rod and then move to the faster ones. Medium action rods are more appropriate as it gives more ‘feel’ to you during fishing. Feeling the rod is important in the beginning, as it will help you direct the target properly and sense the fish as soon as it hits the fly.
* Water and wind conditions are also to be considered while selecting a rod. For example, if you wish to go for a pretty brook, you must look for a 1- to 4-weight range. I love just about any type of crankbait. As someone else posted here, I love Rapala lures. They are great and there are so many different types that I have just started collecting all different kinds so that I can make adjustments depending on what type of water I am fishing in. There is a lot of murky waters near where I live, so I tend to go with brightly colored lures so that it attracts fish better.
My retrieve method is usually a quick short tug and then a slow retrieve followed by another short tug. I usually just try and mix it up to see what works best. Sometimes I will retrieve quicker if the fish are really active, or if the water is cooler, then I go slower and use a suspending lure to let it sit there for a few seconds before jerking the line again. Works wonders. Of course, with freshwater fishing though, live bait always works great too. But, crankbait is always more fun. 🙂
